Use the two bags of M&M’s obtained for the data set to complete these weekly competencies. Label
three columns, the first color, the second the count bag 1 and the third count bag 2.
Hint: Using Excel or Google Sheets for each M&M bag, separately list the colors in one column,
and the number of M&M of each color for bag 1 and for bag 2 in the next two columns;
separately highlight the entire column for each of the following items; look up in the menu bar
and find the ∑ symbol; select the down arrow; select “average.” The average for that column will
appear below the last number in that column.
2. Find the averages for each bag of the following:
a. Calculate the total number of M&M’s colors based on a nominal (number) value for each bag.
b. Compute the average number of M&M’s for each color in each bag (i.e. total number of M&M’s
divided by the number of colors).
c. Calculate the average number of M&M’s found in both bags (i.e. say one bag has 24, and the
other has 30 then the average would be 27).
d. Calculate and list the ordinal value for each bag based on colors from high to low.
3. Submit your responses in a single .xlsx document. This competency is not graded but will receive
comments from your instructor. You will make all revisions, corrections or edits as provided by your
instructor and submit your final copy of this competency in your Signature Assignment that is due in a
later week. Please ask your instructor if you have any questions.
